Two Magpies is a poetic children’s story by John Pritchard, which was first published independently in 2019.
It is a story of two birds who decide that it is necessary to build a nest. Between them, the two magpies conceive of the essential needs of the nest, as well as discuss materials which are not as ideal as others, to make a story of collaboration and teamwork, which ends in the animals having an appropriate nest to sleep in.
The poem is told in a rhyming verse, and has a symmetrical structure which allows both characters in the story to offer equal feedback on the dilemmas as well as rationalised solutions for each issue conceived by them.
The illustrations and story boarding were done by Lori Lukasewich, a professional Canadian illustrator.
